Universal healthcare isn't universal for Trans folx

I recently moved to Toronto and was trying to find a new doctor, I didn't think it would be easy as it is a big city but I also didn't think I would need to be too concerned about where to register, as I was under the impression that this was a welcoming, diverse place.

I managed to find a doctor and went for a pap smear appointment. As a trans man, the doctor seemed extremely confused as to why I was asking for this service, then started to explain to me that men don't need pap smears. I told her that I still had a female reproductive system and she got all flustered and said I would need to book a specialist appointment and that she wouldn't be able to do it for me!

Needless to say I will not be going back there again.
