Being Trans Doesn't Mean I Have Childhood Trauma

As an older trans man I've probably had more than my fair share of bad therapy sessions. While it's definitely not perfect now, I couldn't dream of being able to choose a therapist who even knew what being trans was back in the 80s, let alone be an ally.

The worst sessions were always those that tried to look into what was causing my 'confusion' as they often liked to call it. I remember one therapist was absolutely convinced I must have had a childhood trauma that I had blocked out and should try to remember!

I'm glad things aren't this bad today, but I'm sure there must be some therapists out there who still have these ideas, I just hope that we can avoid them better now
